Why did you want to become a pilot?

It was a decision I made at the age of 7. My grandfather flew in Mosquitos as a radar engineer and was always fascinated by his stories. Travelling on holiday reinforced this passion which continues to this day.

How did you fund your training?

I was very fortunate to have my parents pay for my PPL, the rest was self-funded by working during training and a loan using the old HSBC scheme.

Was training a breeze or did you find it a challenge?

It was certainly a challenge, not necessarily because it was difficult but just the sheer volume of information. Fortunately, it’s very rewarding when you pass each part and the end goal helps with the motivation.

What was most challenging?

ATPL Ground-school.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I like working in a challenging environment where no two days are the same, with people from all different backgrounds. I get a huge amount of satisfaction from delivering a great service to our passengers.

What is most challenging about your job?

The tiredness and life balance.

Which of the Pilot Competencies are of most interest to you and why?

All competencies are important and airlines look for all of these during recruitment and throughout employment. I find the challenge of technical knowledge and the interactions and behaviours of people particularly interesting.
